SEO ISSUES

When two of your own pages compete for one query

I have two pages that target nearly the same phrase. Neither ranks well and I cannot tell which one to edit.

Which checks surface this

  • Ranking data — the same query showing two different URLs from your site over time
  • duplicate-title / duplicate-description — the crawl-side symptom when the two pages also read as duplicates

Check ids: duplicate-title · duplicate-description

A concrete example

Your guide page and your feature page alternate on one phrase. Improving either one alone will not help, because the other stays in the way.

FAQ

Which page should I keep?
Usually the one that matches the dominant intent for the query — a decision page or an explainer, depending on what the phrase asks for. Then point the other page at it.
Is merging always right?
No. If the two pages serve genuinely different intents, keep both and make each one unambiguously about its own phrase, with internal links separating them.
